Why Retail Loses Both Ways
Goal: Explain the three-sided market and identify which side the system takes.
There are three trades available at every structural extreme.
The first trade belongs to bull retail. Price breaks above a swing high, momentum looks unstoppable, and the breakout buyer steps in at the most expensive price the market has printed. When the move is real, they eat. Most of the time at extremes, the move is not real — it is the last push that liquidity providers sell into.
The second trade belongs to bear retail. Price wicks below a swing low and the reversal shorter steps in, betting on collapse exactly where forced sellers have already been flushed. They are early, they are leveraged, and their stops sit in an obvious pool just above.
The third trade belongs to the market maker. Not predicting — positioning. At structural extremes, both retail crowds commit in opposite directions, and both leave stops in predictable places. The third side waits for the flush, watches the reclaim, and enters where both crowds are forced to pay out.
